Rain let up last night and clouds mostly gone by 8-9pm. Much drying out this morning. One other party is camped across the creek. Today’s weather started much the same as yesterday’s, with clouds appearing early in the morning and building. We kept expecting another thunderstorm, but it never developed. Just a few sprinkles. Made good time past Merriam and LaSalle Lakes, short sections of steep uphill intermixed with rock scrambling. Made Feather Pass (12,400 ft) just before noon. Very windy but great views! Down past Bear Paw and Ursa Lakes, typical high alpine lakes--no trees at all. Looked for a camp site but there was nothing really good, plus Ron wanted to continue to Black Bear Lake. That’s were we’re now camped, on a ledge far above the lake. Tomorrow’s goal is Lake Italy--should be relatively easy. |
