The
trailhead parking lot was completely empty when we arrived, although
there were some cows mulling around. Nice hike over good trail
for the most part.
Journal Entry: First day of our Blackcap Basin trip. Stayed at Lily Pad campground near Wishon Reservoir last night, drove to Rancheria trailhead this morning. Started hiking 8:40am. Ups and downs, mostly through forest, around 7 miles. Weather was good, with some clouds but nothing threatening. Got to camp in Crown Valley around 3pm. We are camped just past the group of buildings “Johnson Cow Camp,” and just past the trail heading north from here. Tomorrow’s goal is Blue Canyon in KCNP.
