Late sun and fairly cold night—37F in my tent. Immediately left the trail and headed uphill through brush and trees. Up and up over rocks pretty much all day. Stayed on the west side of the creek until we got to the largest two lakes—then cut between the lakes on the east side of the creek up to the highest large Sphinx Lake at just under 11,000 feet. It was only around 3pm, but we were tired and decided to camp here. A few trees around—no other people. Oh, I lost the rubber tip to my hiking stick somewhere today L. Now we’re a bit behind schedule which said South Guard Lake tonight. Tomorrow we go up 1000 feet to a pass “Sphinx Pass” and into the Brewer Creek drainage. We may do Mt. Brewer tomorrow—if not then the next day… |
