Royce Lakes to French Lake

Fairly
easy day, started with a walk around the lake to Royce Pass, which is
just slightly above lake level. Long downhill to Honeymoon Lake
where we met a trail. Back over the Sierra Crest at Pine Creek
Pass, then off trail over to French Lake. A little bit of a
challenge finding a suitable campsite, ended up about half way across
the lake on its south shore.
Journal Entry: A bit of dew last night, had to dry tents but still started walking about 8:30. Section of large talus to get to Royce Pass, but easy terrain all the way down to the trail up from Honeymoon Lake. Found our 1999 campsite, then headed up the trail to Pine Creek Pass. After a lunch break, headed off-trail to French Lake. Arrived around 2pm, but spent quite a while looking for a campsite. Trees are sparse in some areas. Found a campsite with some nice trees for shade before 3pm. Weather today is beautiful, with small clouds starting at 9:30 but not building much. Mostly blue sky at 4pm! Went for a swim in the lake. Refreshing! Tomorrow is a long day over Steelhead Pass and over to Humphreys Lakes.
