I hadn’t driven for a month, and now had to drive on the left side of the road.  Surprisingly, it came quite naturally, I think due to riding in busses for the last month, and having rented a campervan in Scotland 1˝ years ago (which was more difficult as it was a manual transmission).  In fact, after we returned home the first thing I noticed that looked weird was having the driver’s seat on the left side of the vehicle!

We rented a campervan called a “Spaceship.”  I believe the name comes from the ability to set up the back canopy and have the head of the bed in this canopy giving more space inside.  But they also play with the word.  Each Spaceship has its own unique space-related name, ours was “Sputnik.”  It all makes for some extra fun, and Spaceship drivers wave and honk at each other when they meet on the highways.

Our main reason for a stop in Kaikoura was to go on the Dolphin Encounter.  This tour goes out into the South Pacific looking for Dusky Dolphins, then letting the participants slip into the water with wetsuit, snorkel, mask, and fins to swim with the dolphins.  We had underwater cameras, but the dolphins did not stay still to pose for pictures.  So our shots are mostly of parts of dolphins.  We did get some shots from the boat of dolphins swimming and jumping.
