Marahau is a very small town on the north end of the south island, and serves as a gateway to Abel Tasman National Park.  This park has one of New Zealand’s “Great Walks,” the Abel Tasman Coast Track.  It is a 5-day track to do the whole thing, but since it follows the coast, there are water taxis that can access many points along the track to allow you to easily do shorter segments of it.  We chose to do the Bark Bay to Torrent Bay section, which is supposed to be a 2-3 hour walk of 7.8 km (4˝ miles).  It turned out to be a nice walk, giving Patty the experience of a swing bridge, and the weather was beautiful!
