Thu. 8-1-02 First day on our PCT adventure.
Drove down with Patty, Billy, and Ron yesterday and camped at Leavitt
Meadows just off hwy. 108. Got an
early start—at Sonora Pass by 9am. Said
our goodbyes, and Ron and I were off.
Mostly ridge walking
today—near the crest as the trail suggests.
The trail often contoured high along a ridge.
The views were great—a little hazy.
Clouds were around most of the day but we saw no rain and it’s clear
tonight. We’re camped around
9200 ft. at Kennedy Canyon. Saw
some cows (!) on the trail before we got to camp.
I guess they are allowed to graze here.
We’re not in a designated wilderness area right here—but we passed
in and out of Emigrant Wilderness today. |
