Journal Entry: Low of 38F last night. Started walking around 8am. Varied terrain with ups and downs around to the high lakes. Pass looked like a steep wall. Not so bad when we got closer. Followed a sand path the first part with rocks held in like concrete. Very strange. Then mostly small talus to the top. Got there around 11:30. Descent was very loose in the steep parts. Long route finding to Bench Lake, arriving around 4:15. Nice campsite at the east end of the lake. Tomorrow we are on trail to Twin Lakes via Pinchot Pass.
