Patagonia & Antarctica 2011

Thursday:  Cuverville Island

Today we visited Cuverville Island.  A late snow melt was evident here, and the gentoo penguins that nest here nested late in the season (they won't nest on snow), thus the chicks were younger than we had seen at other landings.  We were told that many of these chicks will not survive the winter as they don't have enough time before the winter hits.  Skua were hanging around this island waiting for penguin chicks that could be picked off.  There were also a few fur seals.
