Alta Peak and Tableland 2008

Had a bit of a challenge finding the trailhead.  The official one is at the north side of the parking loop (where we exited), but we were looking for a shorter route to Long Meadow.  We ended up starting off-trail near some buildings on the west end of the loop.  The trail through Long Meadow was much less traveled, we didn’t see anyone between the parking lot at Panther Gap where the Alta Trail meets with the link from the popular Lakes Trail.

Journal Entry:  Drove down to Lodgepole yesterday for our annual trip.  Spent one night in a walk-in site there, drove to Wolverton trailhead, on trail around 9am.  We took the trail through Long Meadow to meet the Alta Trail, up to Panther Gap.  Cloudy and hazy all day, so views afar hazy.  In tent now at Mehrten Meadow, 4pm, listening to thunder and escaping sprinkles.  Tomorrow’s plan is Alta Peak summit and on to Alta Meadow.
