Palisade Glacier is the largest glacier in the Sierra. Like all of the glaciers, it is much smaller than it used to be, but is still impressive. There is a small pond at the foot of the glacier with icebergs floating in it.
Journal Entry: Clear skies with a slight amount of smoke again—making some long range views hazy but not bad. Started hiking at 8:30, uphill on good trail for a while, then some talus and mostly slabs up to a viewpoint at 12,300 ft. Awesome expanse of glacier with Palisades above. Took the short walk over talus down to the tarn at the foot of the glacier, had some ice floating in it. The glacier had two waterfalls coming off of it. Got back to camp around 2:30. Tomorrow is a very easy day with a downhill on trail to Third Lake.
