The
trail ends at Muriel Lake, so we started off trail toward Goethe Lake
and the saddle between it and Wahoo Lakes. We couldn't find any
information on this saddle, but it looked okay on the topo map.
Turns out it had lots of talus. The end of the day was fairly
easy to Tomahawk Lake.
Journal Entry: Started hiking at 8am under clear skies. Trail on and off up to Goethe Lake. Then we headed uphill over varying terrain, but mostly talus, some very large. Harder than we expected. Reached to saddle and headed mostly north over easy terrain, but then the talus was back and didn’t let up until past Wahoo Lakes. Quite exhausting. Downhill to Golden Trout Lakes after the talus over alpine meadows with rocks and trees. Headed north from there, crossing three trails, toward Tomahawk Lake with GPS assist. Arrived around 3:30 exhausted, and found a great campsite in trees on the east shore. Clouds started building around 9:30, but mostly stuck near the crest. Frequent thunder heard on the last part of the hike, but sky above us was mostly clear. No raindrops as of 4:30. Tomorrow we head to Pilot Pass with possible Pilot Knob summit.
