360 view from Pilot Knob summit -
No
trail today. View from the summit of Pilot Knob was
amazing! I was able to stitch together pictures to create a
complete 360 degree panorama. There was a summit register on the
peak.
Journal Entry: Started walking a bit after 8am. Headed north to Square Lake, then west toward Pilot Knob. Terrain was easy up to the pass, with some ups and downs. Put our packs under a large flat rock and headed up Pilot Knob with day packs. Lots of large talus, and a few class 3 moves. Made it to the summit around 1pm. Found a slightly better way down, then headed down to Alsace Lake, got to camp around 4. Dehydrated and exhausted but mostly recovered now (8pm). Clouds on the crest again with some late thunder, but blue sky above us all day! Tomorrow is a “rest” day, with just a short move to Elba Lake.
