Everest Base Camp Trek
This trek was different in several ways from the
Annapurna circuit. First, the distance was much less but the
average elevation was much higher. Second, the transportation to
this trek is much quicker (lacking weather delays) as it is a short
flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, and you start trekking right from the
airport. Third, there are no roads in this area, thus no
motorcycles, jeeps, or buses. And fourth, I chose to do this trek
with guides and porters rather than independently, which gave me much
less
control but also more social contact and less time worrying about
logistics. Because I was with others, I was not able to rush
through the day's trekking, and although we left early some days due to
the
long trek, we normally didn't arrive at the destination until at least
mid-afternoon. We also had porters to carry some of our gear,
which made my pack a bit lighter. We had only four clients on our
trip, the other three were from Great Britain.
