Steve’s Tramping Adventures

The objective in January was to complete a number of overnight tramping trips so my desire for long hikes was “out of my system” by the time Patty arrived in February. A total of six tracks were chosen which add up to 163 miles (263 km) of tramping, not including the optional side trips. I kept a journal each day during January, the journal entries appear in italics on each page.
Rakiura Track & Stewart Island
Above is a map of the south part of the south island showing bus routes I took in purple. The area in the black box is blown up in the map to the right, which shows boat routes and tracks in addition to the bus routes. I stayed in this area from January 5 when I arrived in Queenstown until I left this map on January 30 on my way to Mt. Cook. |
